Welcome to my blog! I created this blog to document my ventures in life, including my development in the business of teaching and learning. And the students aren’t the only ones doing the learning! My goal is to share teaching strategies and success stories, as well as show that life can happen outside of being an educator.
My name is Lauren, and I was born and raised in Maryland. I still live here with my fiance, our labrador retriever, and our black cat. I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.A. in English and Secondary Education. I recently completed my Master’s program at Goucher College in School Improvement Leadership, and all coursework required for an Admin I certificate. I have other certifications in grades 7-12 English, K-12 ESOL, Reading, and Special Education.
I began my career as a middle school teacher, working with 6th and 8th grade. I moved up to the high school level for two years, and, after deciding that middle school was more my speed, I took a job as an ELA department chair and 8th grade teacher. I also write for VOYA magazine, where I have the amazingly awesome job of receiving and reviewing advanced reader copies of soon-to-be published YA lit.
Besides teaching, I love to read, play with my dog, workout, and spend time with family and friends. I am always on the lookout for ways to improve my craft and grow as a human!
